Avoiding the Golf Traps

It’s every golfer’s worst-case scenario – You’re golfing great, you’ve got a perfect swing, the perfect stance, and you were able to get rid of that slice that’s been on your back. NO matter how well everything goes, even the best golfer can find himself (or herself) occasionally stuck in a sand trap, stuck in the grass or trapped behind a giant tree on the golf course. Unfortunately, the traps are what make the game interesting.  Without them, the game would probably become boring for even the most devoted golfer. Obstructions help to make golf a more interesting and challenging game, and you’ll learn to appreciate the traps when you find the best ways to get out of them.

The odds that your golf ball will roll to a stop right behind a tree are slim, but it does happen. There are ways out of this situation. You could chop down the tree, or drill a hole in the tree large enough to hit your ball through, but that’s probably not going to make the maintenance crew of the golf course very happy.

A lot of golfers just sacrifice one putt so that they can place the golf ball in a more favorable position. How well this works depends on your ability as a golfer, and what you’re willing to risk on one play. If there is another tree close by, you can try a ricochet shot, but it’s not very reliable. You can’t judge where the ball will go once it hits the rough bark of the tree.

A good solution is to practice a curve ball before you get into this situation, so that you’ll know what to do when the time comes.

Sand is a whole other problem completely on the golf course. Many golfers opt for the “whack and see” technique. To do this, pull a sand wedge from your golf bag, hit the general vicinity of the ball, then watch the sand to see if your golf ball takes flight as well.

Consistency is the crucial to your golfing game on the whole, and getting out of a sand trap is not exclusive to this. It is hard to control a golf ball in the sand.  Golf balls don’t really roll in sand and difficult to control a putt from a sand trap. In addition, you are probably going to be dealing with an upward slope of the trap before you’re out on the course again.  Therefore, the only really dependable way to get out of a sand trap is to use the wedge and try to get enough lift on the ball to clear the sand.

Make sure that you choose your wedge cautiously. Keep in mind that you want enough lift to clear the sand.  However, less lift is usually easier to manage.

No matter what obstacle you’re facing on the golf course, having good control of the ball, choosing the right club for the job, and setting up your shot just right are the ways that you will be able to get out of those sticky situations on the golf course.

Employing a manager to run affiliate systems on a retainer with bonuses is a win for product owners, a win for managers and ultimately a win for affiliates.  Having them happy is the only way to keep them actively selling your product or service, and in turn improving business.

Russell Brunson knows how to manage his affiliates after losing over two years of work, and 6,500 affiliates in one day when his system crashed.  He wrote down what worked and what didn’t, then started again and in less then two months he was back.  Now 18 months later he has an affiliate list of 30,000 and draws in a six figure amount of cash per month from his affiliates.

So successful has his been in recruiting affiliates that Russell Brunson, along with affiliate manager Stu McLaren, has developed an affiliate training program for managers.  Both men believe there was a shortage of experienced managers and yet they were the most important element in an effective affiliate marketing program.

Here is a broad look at the most important three elements to be an effective manager:

1. Affiliate Research

It is important that managers draw in the best sales people to sell the products.  The number of affiliates is irrelevant if they don’t sell the products each month.  Stu collects up to 2500-3000 websites that could be interested in selling the product, and then he looks at which ones collect a large amount of quality traffic.  This can be time consuming, but it forms the bases of an effective marketing plan.  In the end there may be 150 to 200 sites that could be quality affiliates.

“We would divide them into either A affiliates and B affiliates. There is no difference between A affiliates and B affiliates except that A affiliates have more traffic or greater numbers in their e-mail lists,” he said.  “Those are the people you want to go after first because they will have the biggest impact on your business in a short period of time, and have the most influence on the most amount of people.’’  

2. Recruiting Affiliates

Once managers have identified which potential affiliates they wish to pursue, they must pursue. Increasing quality affiliates will increase sales.  The secret here is to be pro-active and go beyond what is expected.

“It is not hard, we just pick up the phone and call all the people on our A list,” Stu McLaren said.  “The reason that we call, was because every lazy affiliate manager out there will send an email.  By ringing them we are instantly separate ourselves from other affiliate systems out there.  You instantly start to build a relationship.”

“Before we call we do our research; what is their web site? What are they selling? What sort of people they are drawing to their web site?  Prepare promotions for them ahead of time, the more you reduce the work for them the more likely they will say ‘yes’.  That is the position you want to be in.’’

3. Training affiliates

If the affiliates have a reason to sell the product then they will remain active affiliates.  Other affiliate programs will create only one program, and then expect affiliates to sell again and again each month with the same material. Russell Brunson focuses on creating a reason for affiliates to sell each month and will focus on events in promotional material.

“We create new promotions every month.  My advice is start with holidays or events. Imagine if you created tools around these promotions for your affiliates.  You are saving them time and work and the likelihood of them selling your product is sky high,” Stu said.

Four (4) Ways to Beat the Long Hitter

1.  Hit it straight
Nothing gets inside a long hitters head faster then a fairway hitting opponent.  Chances are the long hitter is not the most accurate driver of the golf ball, keep the heat on by hitting the fairway as much as possible. If you have to use a hybrid club or a iron off the tee to keep the ball in the fairway, the mental edge of hitting the fairway outweighs the loss of distance.

2. Hit the green
Most of if not all of the time you will be hitting first, keep the heat on by hitting the green  If he knows you are looking at birdie putts all day, it starts to wear on him

3. Have a good short game
The short game is the true equalizer on the golf course.  If you have a sharp short game you can compete against any golfer on the planet.

4.  Ignore his distance
Accept the fact the he hits the ball 50 to 60 yards past you.  If you accept the fact that distance doesn’t matter, you will have another psychological advantage.  What difference does it make if he is hitting a pitching wedge and you are hitting a 7 iron for your second shot?  Golf is all about getting the ball in the hole in the fewest strokes, not how you got the ball in the fewest strokes.

When you are playing a match against a long hitter, and lets face it, with the technology in golf clubs, golf balls, strength training and nutrition, guys are hitting the ball 300 plus yards on a regular basis.  The fact still remains that when you are on the golf course you are walking (or riding) with a bag of  tools.  It is just a matter of using the right tool for task at hand.  Does it really matter what club it takes you to hit a golf ball 150 yards?  Weather it’s a 6, 7,8 or 9 iron should not matter to you, and your opponents club selection should be the last thing from your mind during a match.

The pride of the long hitters game is hitting it long, so the fact that you can compete with him without having to hit the 300 yard drives is already a advantage in your favor if you choose to look at it that way. As a short hitter you should focus on keeping the pressure on as much as possible.  The four steps that I have outlined will give you the mental edge that you need to negate the long drives that your opponent is blasting past you.
